"New Moon" To Rise on Friday

"New Moon," the sequel to last year's "Twilight" is expected to have an blockbuster opening weekend. Really more of a teen love story than anything, the opening movie attracted $35.7 million worth of interest on its opening day alone.

Additionally, as of September 19, 2009, the film has grossed $383,520,177 in worldwide box office and, as of July 12, 2009, $157,078,128 in North American DVD sales.

As of September 19, 2009, the film had grossed $383,520,177 in worldwide box office revenues and, as of July 12, 2009, $157,078,128 in North American DVD sales. The excitement building around the "New Moon" sequel is equally compelling, at least for the movie's producers.

The "Twilight" series of four vampire-based fantasy / romance novels by author Stephenie Meyer. The series follows the life of teenager Isabella "Bella" Swan, who moves to Forks, WA and falls in love with a 104-year-old vampire named Edward Cullen. The series is told primarily from Bella's point of view.

The first in the series of movies was last year's "Twilight," which starred Kristen Stewart as Bella and Robert Pattinson as Edward. One casting change has been slotted for the third film, "Eclipse," which brought tears to fans of continuity. Bryce Dallas Howard will replace Rachelle Lefevre, who plays evil vampire Victoria in the first two installments of the film franchise.

In "New Moon," the typical girl loses boy, girl chases boy when he's in danger, girl gets boy again storyline ensues. Edward "breaks" Bella's he breaks her heart and leaves for Italy. However, later, when an unexpected visitor tells Bella that Edward is in danger, so she hops on a plane to Italy to save him.

Typical of teen angst-type movies, but still bound to attract the series' core audience, teenage girls. "New Moon" features a lot of werewolf time, as well, with Jacob Black, a werewolf, befriending the depressed Bella.

Will "New Moon" be a big hit? Most likely it will be. Hollywood has seen the light, and it is tweens.

Another thing is certain: there will be endorsements a-plenty. For example, AT&T partnered with mobile product and service company 2ergo to create a The Twilight Saga: New Moon mobile site. There you can find tons of ringtones and even full songs from the "New Moon" soundtrack.
