Available Now For Download: Office 2010 Public Beta

Microsoft has released public betas of not just Office 2010, but also of Sharepoint 2010 and a variety of other products. The betas are downloadable at http://www.microsoft.com/2010/.

Microsoft had previously made the Office 2010 beta bits available to MSDN and TechNet subscribers for download on November 16th. Microsoft launched a technical preview in July, for a select few testers.

Microsoft is continuing to battle to preserve its cash cows of desktop applications, and desktop operating systems as well. In addition to Office 2010, Microsoft is making available a beta of SharePoint Server 2010, Visio 2010, Project 2010 and Office Web Apps.

The target date for the final version of all of these Office products, as well as SharePoint 2010 is by May/June 2010. It should be noted, however, that a significant number of corporations continue to use Office 2003. Meanwhile, many SOHO users have gravitated to Google Apps.

Finally, on Wednesday Microsoft also released a beta of Office Mobile 2010. That beta is for a slimmed-down version of Office that runs on Windows Mobile. It can be downloaded it through the Windows Mobile Marketplace for Windows Mobile 6.5 phones.
