NFL Fines Brady Quinn Over Cheap Shot

CLE QB Brady Quinn's cheap shot has earned him a fine. The incident, which occurred during Monday night's NFL game between Quinn's Cleveland Browns and the Baltimore Ravens will keep Ravens' DL Terrell Suggs out of Sunday's game against the Indianapolis Colts.

As we wrote, and as shown here, if you look carefully, Brady Quinn's cheap shot occurred on his second interception of the game. His "low block" against Suggs, below the knees, drew a 15 yard penalty from the referees.

On Wednesday, Brady Quinn announced that he had been fined by the NFL. He didn't reveal the amount, but he said it was a "good amount."

Brady Quinn added that he was simply trying to tackle Chris Carr, who had made the interception. "I can see why they'd be upset. But again, he wasn't even in my vision. I was trying to get to the ball. He cut across my face as I was already try to jump down for the tackle."

Still Brady Quinn's low block has been called a cheap shot by many, and that includes Ravens LB Ray Lewis, who called initially it a "cheap shot" after the game. Despite the fine, he's still not in a forgiving mood.

Of course, Lewis has been extremely critical of the new Brady Rule, named for Tom Brady, QB of the Patriots, not Brady Quinn, which restricts low sacks by the defense. He said, "You penalize us so much as a defensive player for going and just really doing out jobs. And then you see a person not doing the job, who just goes and spears a man in his knee, and now the man is out. It ain't good football."

Was it really a Brady Quinn cheap shot? It would have been if he meant to do it. That's the question, and Browns coach Eric Mangini believes Quinn was only trying to tackle Carr. He said, "Knowing Brady, he's a good person. I don't think he would ever look to hurt someone deliberately."
