Shaniya Davis's funeral held Sunday in Fayetteville, NC. Open to the public, it will prove to be a sad ending to the horrific story of the five-year-old's death. Davis' body was found off a rural road in North Carolina on Monday.
First reported missing on Nov. 10th, Shaniya Davis' body was found off a heavily wooded road, Walker Road, off NC Highway 87, in a rural area. Her body was found about 100 feet off the road, which is southeast of Sanford, in central North Carolina.
While police withheld details of her body's appearance, an autopsy has determined the Shaniya Davis cause of death to be asphyxiation. That could mean many things, but further information has not been given. Additionally, results of a toxicology report have not been completed, but authorites were clear in labeling the Shaniya Davis cause of death as asphyxiation.
As the Shaniya Davis funeral approaches, it's hard to look at this story as anything but tragic. Arrested in her case are two people, one of which is her mother, Antoinette Nicole Davis, 25. Davis was arrested last Saturday on accusations of human trafficking, filing a false police report, and felony child abuse with respect to Shaniya, whom police say was rented out as a sex slave by her mother.
Also arrested was Mario Andrette McNeill, 29. He is charged with first-degree kidnapping, first degree murder, and rape of a child. Police have previously said that surveillance footage from a Sanford Comfort Suites hotel showed McNeill carrying Shaniya Davis there.

November 10, 2009: Shaniya Davis was reported missing. Cumberland County authorities said foul play was suspected.

November 14, 2009: Shaniya's mother, Antoinette Davis, arrested, as noted above.
November 16, 2009: Shaniya Davis found dead on Monday afternoon.
November 16, 2009: Vigil Held for Shaniya Davis, with Shaniya Davis' father, Bradley Lockhart, in attendance.
November 17, 2009: Antoinette Davis, Shaniya's mother, reported to be pregnant, by her aunt.
November 20, 2009: Shaniya Davis cause of death determined by autopsy to be asphyxiation.
