Montana Takes Top Seed In FCS Playoff Schedule 2009

The BCS or Bowl Championship Series playoff "series" is the top level of NCAA football. It's really a series of bowl games, however, not true playoffs. That's contrasted by the FCS, which just released the FCS Playoff Schedule 2009.

The FCS or Football Championship Subdivision used to be called Division I-AA in the NCAA, sort of a second tier. The FCS Playoff Schedule 2009 outlines the 16-team bracket. This is a true playoff, with single-elimination used in the tournamemnt.

Many have wanted the BCS to, rather than relying on one bowl game between the 1 and 2 seeds, to have a tournament as shown in the FCS Playoff Schedule 2009. That's been a hard sell, however, as bowl games in Division I football are big business, and big money.

The FCS Playoff Schedule 2009 shows that Montana Grizzlies, unbeaten, as the top seed. The 11-0 Grizzles will host South Dakota State in a first round game next Saturday at Washington-Grizzly Stadium.

While seeded first in the FCS Playoff Schedule 2009, Montana has to be holding its breath after last season. They lost 24-7 in the finals of the 2008 FCS playoffs, finishing as the runners-up.
