As Cyber Monday Nears, Pricegrabber Releases Black Friday Online Statistics

Pricegrabber has released a report on online Black Friday sales. While cautious optimism has emerged about Black Friday sales, forecasts for the holiday season are not good. Brick-and-mortar sales are estimated to drop one percent this year while online shopping will rise by 3 percent. That online "surge" is demonstrated in Pricegrabber's report.

PriceGrabber, available at Pricegrabber.com, is a division of Experian. It's report, issued Saturday, showed that the categories gravitated toward included MP3 Players, high-definition TVs and GPS units. The most sought-after Black Friday 2009 products, according the report, included the Nintendo Wii video gaming console, nuvi 265WT GPS and the Apple iPod touch 8GB.

PriceGrabber survey showed that 45 percent of consumers were planning to shop on Black Friday, with 80 percent of those planning to buy. For Cyber Monday, which is tomorrow, 45 percent overall plan to shop with 66 percent of thoes making a purchase.

In addition to other useful purposes, Pricegrabber is a portal that users can search to find the best prices for products at various online retailers. Not all vendors post their prices there, however. You won't find Amazon.com pricing there, for example. An alterntiave is to use Google or (surprisingly) even better, Bing's "decision engine," if you don't have a specific store in mind to buy from.
