For one, Amazon.com has announced that Boyle's album set pre-order records. "I Dreamed a Dream" released on Nov. 23rd.
Meanwhile, in the U.K., the album has reached the top of the charts. The Official Charts Company, which tracks music sales in Britain, says that more than 410,000 copies of "I Dreamed a Dream" have sold since its release, making it the fastest selling album in 2009. Additionally, it is the highest first-week sales for a debut album in U.K. chart history.
Numbers on "I Dreamed a Dream" in the U.S. haven't released yet, but according to Billboard, based on early sales returns and pre-orders the album is in contention to outsell 2009's top debut-week seller, Eminem's "Relapse." If it did so, it would mean more for Susan Boyle: the debut week for "Relapse" also stands as the best overall sales week for an album in 2009, period.
Susan Boyle is best-known as the rather cheeky entrant on "Britain's Got Talent" who surprised the audience and the panel when she appeared in the opening round. While she had a somewhat frumpy appearance, she had a beautiful voice, and her rendition of "I Dreamed a Dream" made Simon Cowell's eyebrows rise, which speaks to his surprise.
In fact, the audience loved her as well, and all on the panel had to admit they had mistakenly pre-judged her. Since then, it has been a whirlwind for Boyle, which eventually rssulted in her being treated for anxiety, as well. Despite all that, it appears that Boyle is well on the way to the fame and fortunate that many predicted after hearing her voice on "Britain's Got Talent."
