Former President Bill Clinton and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton are planning a wedding. Their daughter Chelsea Clinton, 29, has announced plans to wed her longtime boyfriend, investment banker Marc Mezvinsky, 31.
Earlier this year, reports had circulated that Chelsea Clinton and Marc Mezvinsky were planning to marry this summer, the one just past. This time, however, the engagement is confirmed.
Mark Mezvinsky is the son of former Pennsylvania Rep. Marjorie Margolies-Mezvinsky and former Iowa Rep. Ed Mezvinsky, longtime friends of the Clintons. Last year, Ed Mezvinsky was released from federal prison; he pleaded guilty in 2002 to charges of bank and wire fraud.
Chelsea Clinton and Marc Mezvinsky announced their engagement using the 21st century postcard: email. Additionally, the couple laughably commented on the prior rumors of a 2009 wedding in their email. They said:
“We’re sorry for the mass email but we wanted to wish everyone a belated Happy Thanksgiving! We also wanted to share that we are engaged! We didn't get married this past summer despite the stories to the contrary, but we are looking toward next summer and hope you all will be there to celebrate with us. Happy Holidays! Chelsea & Marc.”
Not only had a rumor circulated in May that Chelsea Clinton and Marc Mezvinsky were to wed during the summer, in September, an additional rumor circulated that they had, in fact, wed secretly on Martha's Vineyard. It took repeated denials from the Clinton camp to quell the rumors, and even then some still believed it.
Chelsea Clinton and Marc Mezvinsky became as teenagers in Washington. Additionally, both attended Stanford University in California.. They now live in New York. Marc Mezvinsky works at Goldman Sachs as an investment banker; Chelsea Clinton is attending graduate school at Columbia University’s School of Public Health.
