A former Miss Argentina, Solange Magnano, has died from complications following cosmetic surgery. The surgery was a gluteoplasty, which is essentially cosmetic surgery on her buttocks. She was 38 years old.
Solange Magnano won the Miss Argentina crown in 1994. She leaves behind a husband and eight-year-old twins. She died of a pulmonary embolism on Sunday. The gluteoplasty took place, in Buenos Aires, on Thursday.
A gluteoplasty generally involves enlarging and firming the buttocks by placing implants into them, or "lifting" them. Essentially, Solange Magnano died from complications from wanting to have a slightly better-shaped behind.
A pulmonary embolism is a blockage of the main artery of the lung or one of its branches by a substance that has traveled from elsewhere in the body through the bloodstream. This may be a blood clot, or some other foreign substance. In the case Solange Magnano's gluteoplasty, according to reports, involved injections and the liquid "went to her lungs and brain."
According to statements by Guillermo Azar, an associate from the fashion world and a close friend of Solange Magnano's, she only did the gluteoplasty because she felt it was "nothing." It is true that many people believe these types of cosmetic procedures are "nothing," but any invasive surgery can cause complications of this nature, and embolisms are note unheard of.
Solange Magnano's burial was broadcast on Argentine television on Monday. Meanwhile, her Facebook page has been flooded with tributes in both English and Spanish, including one that said, "I pray that god will give your family peace over this TRAGIC incident. SO SAD."
