Verizon HTC Droid Eris To Get Android Version 2.0 in 2010

Currently, of Android app phones, only the Motorola Droid app phone runs Android version 2.0. That will change in 2010, if note before, as the Eris, Verizon's other Android phone, will get an upgrade to 2.0, or perhaps even 2.1, next year.

The Eris also shares the Droid monicker, but the Eris is a phone built by HTC, not Motorola. Currently that device is running Android 1.5. However, it undercuts the Motorola Droid in price, and some analysts prefer the Eris to the Droid.

Part of the reason for the preference for the HTC Eris is the Droid Eris' Sense UI overlay. As opposed to the Android 2.0 basic internface run on the Motorola Droid, Sense UI is a lot more aesthetically appealing. It shows that HTC hasn't forgotten the advantage that Touch3D gives it on Windows Mobile Device. Also, the Droid Eris is lighter and more pocketable than the Motorola Droid.

However, the Eris is missing the Droid's real keyboard. For some, that's not a big issue as many have criticized the Motorola Droid's keyboard. However, with Android 1.5, it's also missing the Google Maps navigation system that was used to hype the Droid.

With the addition of Android 2.0 or 2.1, the Droid Eris will catch up to the Motorola Droid in features. Also, Verizon has said that the Sense UI component will remain, continuing the UI advantage the device has.
