Saints vs. Overmatched Washington Barely Stay Undefeated

The Washington Redskins scored more points on Sunday than they had in two years. At the same time, the New Orleans Saints gave up more points on Sunday than they had all season long. With that, a 3 - 8 team nearly defeated an 11 - 0 team as the Redskins almost ended the hopes of the Saints for a perfect season. The operative word is "almost," as the Saints vs. Redskins ended as expected, a loss for Washington.

However, for most of the Saints vs. Redskins game, it seemed like Washington was destined for an upset. Redskins QB Jason Campbell played out of his mind on Sunday. He was 26 for 37, 331 yards and 3 TDs with no INTs. However, the Redskins gave the Saints a chance at the end. FG kicker Shaun Suisham missed a 23-yard FG with less than two minutes left. If he had made the FG he would have iced the game.

With 1:19 left in regulation, the Saints QB Drew Brees threw a 53-yard strike to Robert Meachem. That TD tied and game and showed how costly the FG miss was. With that TD, the score was tied, and the Redskins could not execute and score.

In overtime, the Redskins won the toss. However, a fumble by a Redskin receiver, which was not called until reviewed by replay, was costly. It set the Saints up on the 25 yard line of the Saints.

From there, the Saints ran out the string and scored an 18-yard FG to win the game, 33 - 30. In reality, they should have lost the game, as Washington was amazing for most of the game. Unfortunately, that missed Redskin FG in regulation was the game.

In fact, there was already no way the New Orleans Saints couldn't have won their division. The Atlanta Falcons were destroyed by the Eagles. That loss clinched the division title for the Saints.

There is still one other undefeated team in the NFL. The AFC's Indianapolis Colts beat the Tennessee Titans 27 - 17, but in a convincing manner, in contrast to NO's squeaker, to maintain their streak.
