As Expected, Susan Boyle Tops YouTube 2009 Charts

There is absolutely no surprise with the announcement of the YouTube Top Videos of 2009. Quite possibly, no one would have taken bets against this video; it was the video of Susan Boyle's shockingly good performance on "Britain's Got Talent," overcoming the mocking of both the audience and the judges.

You can watch that initial performance here in fact, if you are one of the few who did not see it already. That video topped the YouTube charts with a viewing audience of more than 120 million.

Although it was highly hoped and expected that Susan Boyle would win this year's Britain Got Talent, she lost. She came in as the runner-up to Diversity. Despite that, however, the 48-year-old has produced an album and risen to the top of the charts.

In fact, the numbers were so high that Susan Boyle's performance had more views that the next 3 finishers, combined. Lagging in second place with a mere 37 million hits was David After Dentist. That video showed a a little boy still "under the influence" after a visit to the dentist.

JK's Wedding Entrance Dance was in third place with more than 33 million hits. That was a video of a wedding entrance in which all of the participants danced down the aisle. One such "dancer" walked on his hands down the aisle.

A commercial video broke into the top five at number four on the YouTube Top Videos of 2009 list. It was the official trailer for the much hyped, New Moon Twilight sequel. That movie broke box office records when it arrived in theaters, and the trailer was seen by more than 31 million people.

Finally, in fifth place, was the Evian Roller Babies video. Another commercial video, the three different versions of a clip featuring diaper-wearing babies performing roller-skating stunts soaked up 27 million views.

Which video will surprise next year? Which video might propel an unknown to superstardom? YouTube viewers will be watching.
