Actress Brittany Murphy is dead of a heart attack. The actress, known for her roles in such films as "Clueless," "8 Mile" and "Girl Interrupted," was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center after her husband, Simon Monjack, called emergency services. She was pronounced dead on arrival.
The news that Brittany Murphy was dead was first leaked by the website TMZ. In addition to the above films, Brittany Murphy has several projects listed on IMDB as being in post-production. She was also the voice of Luanne Platter on the animated series "King of the Hill" for its long run.
Brittany Murphy married British writer-director Simon Monjack in May of 2007. Her last big movie was the movie adaptation of the comic book "Sin City" in 2005.
One might think, based on the hot search term "Brittany Murphy dead," that this is just another celebrity death hoax, but unfortunately, it is not. It is unusual for a woman of her age to die of a heart attack, but there has been past speculation that she had both an eating disorder as well as cocaine addiction, both of which could lead to cardiac arrest.
For example, the great singer Karen Carpenter died at 33 of a cardiac arrest. She had battled an eating disorder for years. Of course, everything is pure speculation until and unless an autopsy is performed.
In 2005, Brittany Murphy denied the allegations of cocaine use:
"Wow. No, just for the record I have never tried it in my entire life, I've never even seen it, and I don't leave the house too much, except to go to work. My worst vice is caffeine. [The rumor is] really pretty darn far-fetched -- it couldn't be further from the truth. I have known people over the course of my life that have bad problems with drugs, and it's something really serious."
All Hollywood is shocked at the news that Brittany Murphy is dead. Her first job in Hollywood came at the age of 14, when she starred as Brenda Drexell in the series "Drexell's Class." She went on to guest on TV series such as "Blossom" and "Frasier."
Her big break came in the movie "Clueless." Brittany Murphy starred alongside Alicia Silverstone, playing the sidekick who went from a wallflower to a hottie.
