Despite being under house arrest as he faces extradition to the U.S., famed Oscar-winning director Roman Polanski is working on completing his latest film, "Ghost." Polanski is sequestered in his chalet in the luxury Swiss resort of Gstaad.
Roman Polanski fled the U.S. in the late 1970s, as the deal he had made to avoid prison time for a charge unlawful sex with a minor. He was arrested on Sept. 26th as he traveled to attend the Zurich Film Festival to accept an award for lifetime achievement.
Roman Polanski has to wear an electronic monitoring bracelet around his ankle to ensure he does not leave the grounds of the chalet. However, he is free to do whatever he likes on the grounds, even entertain guests and work on his films.
A number of Hollywood bigwigs have come to the defense of Polanski for this issue. However, just as many have spoken on the opposite side of the issue, saying that Hollywood is expecting Polanski to receive the special treatment that celebrities often do.
In order to gain the "privilege" of house arrest, Roman Polanski had to give Swiss authorities $4.5 million in bail. The huge amount of bail was a key to gaining house arrest. In fact, this is the first time Switzerland has granted house arrest in an extradition case.
Roman Polanski is being joined in the chalet by his family. That includes his children, Elvis, 9, and Morgane, 16, along with his wife, French actress Emmanuelle Seigner.
