Second Northwest Flight 253 Incident In Detroit

A second emergency situation has occurred on a Northwest Airlines flight to Detroit. As in the incident that occurred on Christmas Day, involving Nigerian national Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, 23, the flight was on its way to Detroit, and was near landing.

Security procedures have been changed since the Christmas Day incident, and now during the final hour of flight passengers must remain seated. In this case, initial reports are that the passenger spent an hour in the restroom, then became disruptive. Full details on the events are unclear.

What is certain is that airline personnel were concerned by the actions of the passenger, and that they called down to the tower regarding this. Pilots reported a passenger being up and down from his seat, and had spent a great deal of time in the bathroom.

This was all monitored by government officials in Washington. Post-9/11, it is standard procedure for an inter-agency phone call to be convened, between the FAA, military, TSA, White House, and such occurred. All the appropriate civilian and military agencies were ready.

Various media outlets are describing the passenger as "verbally disruptive." There does not appear to have been any sort of threat by the passenger.

It is ironic that it is the same flight, Northwest Airlines Flight 253 from Amsterdam to Detroit. Delta Airlines, which is merging with NWA and is considered its parent company, has said that all passengers have already been deplaned.

It is truly eerie that the same flight, Northwest Airlines Flight 253, on a second day, was involved in the incident. As it became apparentl that the flight was late, alarm bells, according to CNN's TV report, began to go off.
