Frightening Urban Meyer 911 Call Over Chest Pains Released

Urban Meyer, University of Florida head football coach, who recently quit, then recanted and decided to take a leave of absence, did so initially over health concerns. Truly, the 911 call over the chest pains that caused his initial resignation, is truly frightening.

According to the Urban Meyer 911 recording, Meyer's wife told an Alachua County dispatcher that her husband, 45 had a pulse but wasn't responsive when she contacted emergency officials at 4:27 AM on Dec. 6th.

The Urban Meyer 911 call took place only hours after the Florida Gators loss to Alabama in the SEC title game. That loss gave Alabama a chance at the national title in the BCS Championship Bowl Game, and relegated Florida to the Sugar Bowl.

On Sunday, announcing his indefinite leave of absence, Urban Meyer did not address the 911 call or its ramifications, at least not in detail. Meyer said that he might need a procedure to alleviate chest pains that started four years ago, but would elaborate of indicate if he had a heart condition. He insisted the Urban Meyer 911 call was not about a a heart attack.

Urban Meyer also refused to say whether doctors told him to step away from NCAA football. He did admit the chest pains have become a real issue of late. "The chest pains have really become a serious issue the past two weeks," he added.

In the Urban Meyer 911 Call, Shelley Meyer said, “My husband’s having chest pains. He’s having chest pains, he just woke up in the middle of the night and said he’s having chest pains.”

Asked about Urban Meyer's prior cardiac history on the 911 call, Shelley Meyer said he had prior chest pain incidents. She said, "He's had some pains in his chest; anxiety, usually anxiety."

Shelley Meyer said her husband had taken a sleeping pill, Ambien, to be exact, and that the drug usually put him completely out. He had taken the pill at 11:30 PM. "It's almost like he's deep, deep asleep. The Ambien really puts him out," said Shelley Meyer, who is a psychiatric nurse.
