The Houston Texas beat a New England Patriot team who was probably more interested in protecting its players than anything else, 34-27 on Sunday. By doing so, Houston has its first winning season ever, at 9-7, and still has a foot in the playoff scenario door.
The Texans need a lot of help in order to make the wild-card in the AFC playoffs. They need two of the following three to lose: NYJ, BAL, DEN. You read that right, they need two of out those three to lose.
Baltimore is playing at Oakland, Cincinnati plays the NYJ in the late Sunday game, and Kansas City plays at Denver. Kansas City is currently leading Denver 7-0, while BAL and OAK are tied at 0-0, at the time of this writing.
For New England, they lost more than just a game to the Houston Texans. While the game meant little to them, their WR Wes Welker is something else. Twenty minutes (real-time) into the game, fans were holding their breath. Wes Welker injured his left knee, which could be a major blow to the Patriots' playoff hopes.
To anyone watching the bame, the injury looked bad. NE QB Tom Brady hit Welker over the middle, for Welker's 123 catch, the second highest total in NFL history, even though he had missed two games.
That is when things went bad. Welker turned upfield, attempted to cut, and his knee buckled. The obvious thoughts of ACL, MCL, and the like ran through Patriots' minds.
Thus, there are two teams holding their breaths, right now. NE is waiting for tests on Welker. Houston is waiting to see if they are in the playoffs.
