The Dallas Cowboys pulverized the Philadelphia Eagles in the first round of the NFL playoffs on Saturday. The game, the third victory for Dallas over Philadelphia this season, showed the dominance of the Cowboys, with the Cowboys Eagles score ending up at 34-14.
Not only did Dallas basically destroy the Eagles, they did so after last week's season ending game, in which Dallas won the Eastern conference of the NFC by similarly pasting the Eagles. That Cowboys Eagles score was 24-0.
It was the third game between the teams this season, so they knew each other's tendencies well. The Cowboys Eagles score shows that Philly could not come up with any adjustments to halt the Cowboys.
The game was scoreless as the teams entered the second quarter, but then Dallas QB Tony Romo led the team on five consecutive scoring drives. The Cowboys scored 27 points, 3 TDs and 2 FGs, with a long pass from Michael Vick of 76 yards for a TD to Jeremy Maclin the only answering drive from the Eagles.
From there, it was a coast for the Cowboys. The only remainng Cowboys Eagles scores were a Felix Jones 73 Yd Run in the third quarter, and a Desean Jackson TD reception on a short pass from Donovan McNabb.
Next for Dallas is a trip to Minnesota on Sunday. Tony Romo will face his "childhood hero," Brett Favre. The Cowboys, with their late season surge, show that they could be around for a while.
Under Andy Reid, this is the first time that Philly has gone out in its opening playoff game. Philadelphia had been 7-0 in playoff openers with Reid, and also 6-0 with Donovan McNabb at quarterback.
