Pat Robertson On Haiti Earthquake: Caused By Pact With The Devil

Christian televangelist Pat Robertson has made some inflammatory statements about disasters or other "plagues upon mankind" in the past. This morning, Pat Robertson did the same with the Haiti Earthquake.

Wednesday, during the "700 Club" broadcast, Pat Robertson blamed the Haiti Earthquake on the Haitians themselves. He said the earthquake was a result of "a pact with the devil" that Haiti made long ago.

Here's what Robertson said. You can watch the video here.

"They were under the heel of the French. You know, Napoleon III, or whatever. And they got together and swore a pact to the devil. They said, we will serve you if you'll get us free from the French. True story. And so, the devil said, okay it's a deal."

Pat Robertson alleged that besides the Haiti earthquake, Haiti had been afflicted with other disasters, all because of this pact with the devil. Examples, although not specifically highlighted by Robertson, would be the 2008 hurricane season, in which Haiti suffered through four of those storms.

Additionally, Pat Robertson said the Haiti Earthquake might have something good from it, if the country saw "a great turning to God." What Robertson does not know is that the country of Haiti is 80 percent Roman Catholic.

Additional, such a wrathful God is definitely Old Testament. One would wonder why an evangelical Christian would not use the message of love that Jesus gave in the New Testament.

Pat Robertson has, in the past, alleged that other natural disasters and afflictions were based on other sins. For example, he had, in the past, linked Hurricane Katrina to legalized abortion. Pat Robertson's statements on the Haiti Earthquake are just the latest in a long line of controversial remarks.
