Lady Gaga on Oprah this morning brought several gifts. One was her new hairstyle as a unique gift to Oprah. The second was her performance. The third was her announcement that the proceeds from her upcoming New York concert on January 24th will be given to help Haiti.
Some ware wondering about Lady Gaga on Oprah. On Thursday night, Lady Gaga cancelled a concert at Purdue University because of an undisclosed illness. Yet here she was performing on Oprah, showing no ill effects!
It is, of course, possible that the Lady Gaga performance on Oprah was pre-recorded (i.e., lip-synced) and thus didn't require her to strain herself. Or, some theorized, the show may have been completely pre-recorded. However, the C-S-T said they were told today's Lady Gaga appearance on Oprah was live.
At any rate, her statement regarding her illness came on Twitter. "I am so devastated. I have performed with the flu, a cold, strep throat: I would never cancel a show just based on discomfort. I hope you can forgive me. I love my little monsters more than anything, you are everything to me." The concert has been rescheduled to Jan. 26th.
Critics have noted that when Lady Gaga on Oprah appeared anything but sick. She stepped onto the stage with a ball and chain and spiky getup, including a spiked hairstyle. She later took said ball and chain, jumped on a "taxi" and attempted to break through its windshield. Hardly the actions of a really sick person, but perhaps she caught her second wind.
At any rate, one highlight of Lady Gaga on Oprah was her pledge to help the victims of the Haitian earthquake. She said that all proceeds from her concert, and all merchandise sales as well, will go to help the Haitian earthquake victims. She also stated that if you go to her website, LadyGaga.com, on Jan. 24th, those proceeds will go to Haiti, as well.
While specifics were not given, it should be a decent amount for Haitian earthquake victims. Thus, we can forgive any indiscretions regarding her concert cancellation. It's possible Purdue may not feel that way, however.
It should be noted that George Clooney is planning a telethon for the victims as well. For those who want to help some other way, please check our earlier story.
