Warner Press Conference To Announce QB's Fate

While much of the football world focuses on the fate of one aging great QB (Brett Favre), there's another great QB who may be hanging up his helmet. We're talking about Kurt Warner of the Arizona Cardinals.

Kurt Warner has scheduled a news conference for Friday. That's when he will announce whether he plans to retire, according to a Cardinals source.

It's been widely assumed that Warner, 38, will retire. The fact that sources say he has already begun gathering his family so they can attend Friday's news conference at the team's training facility points to in that direction, as well.

While Kurt Warner appears to still have what it takes to play, much as with Brett Favre, the decision may center around health. During the Cardinals divisional playoff game against the Saints, defensive end Bobby McCray leveled Warner. Warner ended up with a bruised chest.

There's also the question of concussions. Earlier this season, Kurt Warner suffered a concussion, which reportedly was at least the third concussion of his career, and quite possibly his fifth, he later said.

With the NFL taking more steps to protect players after concussions, as well as the fact that Warner has already won a Super Bowl, there's little else for him to prove. He's also been voted to five Pro Bowls, and won two NFL MVP awards.

Like Brett Favre, Kurt Warner has a year left on his contract. Following last season, he signed a two-year, $23 million contract.
