Top-rated high schooler Jackson Jeffcoat has signed a letter of intent to join Texas. The defensive end is ranked No. 2 on the ESPNU 150 rankings. Meanwhile, Rivals.com listed Jackson Jeffcoat as the 12th overall prospect in the country and third among defensive ends.
Jackson Jeffcoat chose Texas over two other schools which had been in his list of finalists: Oklahoma and Houston. Jeffcoat made the announcement on Friday morning in front of a student body crowd at Plano West High School.
Announcing his decision, which Jackson Jeffcoat said was made just days ago, he said, "I felt most comfortable at Texas. It's not that I didn't feel comfortable anywhere else; everywhere else was great. That's why it was such a hard decision and it took so long. All these schools are great schools. I just felt right with Texas."
Jackson Jeffcoat stands 6'5", and weighs 225 pounds. He has a lot of growing to do, obviously. His decision was complicated by family matters.
Jackson Jeffcoat's twin sister, Jacqueline, had already committed to play basketball at Oklahoma. Meanwhile, his father, former NFL and Dallas Cowboys defensive end Jim Jeffcoat, is on the coaching staff at Houston.
During his senior season at Plano West, Jackson Jeffcoat had 87 tackles, 8 1/2 sacks, two interceptions, three forced fumbles and two blocked kicks. He was also on the Associated Press Class 5A all-state team.
