The Texas Longhorns are scoring big today. Not only did they manage to snag one of the top-rated DEs, Jackson Jeffcoat, earlier today, they've now verbally "signed" Jordan Hicks, a top-rated linebacker.
Jordan Hicks, the Lakota West High School (Ohio) linebacker, is ranked the nation's top linebacker and No. 4 player overall by ESPN's Scouts Inc. National Signing Day, the first Wednesday in February, isn't until Wednesday, but both he and Jeffcoat were announcing their verbal decisions early.
Jordan Hicks is 6'2" and 220 pounds. In addition to Scouts.com, Rivals.com rates him as the nation's top outside linebacker and an overall top 20 player.
Earlier, Jordan Hicks won the second-ever Butkus Award for high school linebackers. He received that award in December of 2009. The award was presented in-person by its namesake, Pro Football Hall of Fame legend and former Chicago Bear LB Dick Butkus.
Jordan Hicks was apparently also interested in Florida and Ohio State. Ohio State already has 8 in-state commitments. It had to think it had the inside track on Jordan Hicks, particularly with Jim Tressel's record on in-state recruits, but reportedly Texas' Will Muschamp made Hicks a pet project.
