iPad BestBuy Rumors Run Wild, But Don't Make Sense

Apple's iPad introduction was heralded by many as the redefinition of the tablet PC, but in reality, as we pointed out, it's less a computer than it is a large iPhone. Still, people want to get their hands on the device, now, and thus these iPad BestBuy rumors.

While there's no confirmation of the rumor, there's no reason to doubt that BestBuy may eventually sell the iPad. After all, BestBuy sells the iPhone. However, iPad BestBuy rumors over date are more in doubt.

The iPad BestBuy rumors, some say, point to an in-store release of early March or even late February. There are quite a few reasons that that makes no sense at all.

For one thing, when BestBuy received the rights to sell the iPhone, it was a long time after the device first sold. There's no reason to believe that the iPad BestBuy connection would occur on the first day the device sells.

In fact, Apple hasn't even confirmed that AT&T will sell the device in its retail stores. Still, that's far more likely than the iPad BestBuy rumors, as AT&T is the carrier that will support the iPad's 3G connectivity.

However, AT&T itself may not have the first set of iPads. Those are wi-fi only, without 3G connectivity. It wouldnt' make much sense for a wireless carrier to sell a device without 3G connectivity but, of course, who really knows?

Finally, however, is the biggest reason that the iPad BestBuy rumors are too early to be true, or at least confirmed. Apple itself, on its site, says the wi-fi models will be available in late March, with 3G models in April. They don't have a solid date themselves, and they also aren't taking pre-orders, yet.

At any rate, the iPad BestBuy rumor is just that, strictly a rumor for now. At the very least, the date implied by some is definitely questionable.
