The Miss America 2010 pageant was held on Saturday night. Frequently, this pageant is confused with the Miss USA pageant, from which winners continue on to the Miss Universe pageant. Tonight's big winner at the Miss America 2010 pageant was Miss Virginia, Caressa Cameron.

In fact, last year's Miss USA winner actually became less famous than a runner-up, Miss California, Carrie Prejean. Her answer, to a question on gay marriage, as well as her actions afterwards, made the fleeting fame of a runner-up into continuing fame, or perhaps, infamy.

Once again, Mario Lopez hosted the Miss America 2010 pageant finale. Among the judges were Miss America 2001 Katie Harman, Olympic gold medalist Shawn Johnson, musician Dave Koz, actress Vivica A. Fox, radio commentator Rush Limbaugh, and former “American Idol” contestant Brooke White. Actor and comedian Paul Rodriguez pulled out because a "family emergency." The show was broadcast on TLC.

To become the Miss America 2010 winner, Caressa Cameron had to beat out a total of 52 other contestants. Those cam from the 50 U.S. states, the District of Columbia, the Virgin Islands and, after a 50-year absence, Puerto Rico. The first Miss America pageant was held in 1921. The event is now held in Las Vegas after leaving Atlantic City in 2006.

During the week, preliminary competitions were scored, and these were added to Saturday's swimsuit, talent, evening gown and interview competitions to determine the Miss Americs 2010 winner. Each judge ranked their five favorites in order, and their ballots were used to determine the winner.

During the week of Miss America 2010 preliminaries, Miss Virginia Caressa Cameron, Miss California Kristy Cavinder and Miss Michigan Nicole Blaszczyk each won $2,000 for winning split talent competitions. Miss Oregon CC Barber, Miss New York Alyse Zwick and Miss Puerto Rico Mimi Pabon each won $1,000 in nightly swimsuit competitions.

In addition, the $6,000 Miss America 2010 Quality of Life awared went to Miss Oklahoma Taylor Treat. That award is given to the contestant judged to excel the most in community service and volunteerism.

The closest runners-up in the Miss America 2010 pageant were Miss California (first), Miss Tennessee (second). Miss Louisiana was the third runner-up and Miss Kentucky was fourth runner-up.
