Apple Fixes Bugs With iTunes 9.0.3 Update

Apple on Monday released iTunes 9.0.3. This release is mostly a bug fix release, fixing quite a few issue in the iTunes software.

iTunes is Apple's digital media management software. The software has become so ubiquitous that Apple came out with a web version, so that if you are sent an iTunes link from a friend, but don't have iTunes installed, it will still allow you to view the song's details and even preview it.

iTunes is also used for installing apps from the App Store onto iPhones and iPod touches, updating the firmware on iPods, managing you playlists and music, and most important of all, allowing users to seamlessly buy and rent apps, music, and videos. iTunes 9.0.3's release notes say that the following bugs have been squashed.

iTunes 9.0.3 provides a number of important bug fixes, including:

  • iTunes no longer ignores your "Remember password for purchases" setting.
  • Addresses problems with syncing some Smart Playlists and Podcasts with iPod.
  • Resolves a problem recognizing when iPod is connected.
  • Addresses issues that affect stability and performance.

iTunes 9.0.3 doesn't have to shut down the ability of the Palm webOS to sync with iTunes. That ability disappeared some time ago in an earlier iTunes update, and Palm hasn't restored the ability yet.

Reportedly, iTunes 9.0.3 doesn't affect jailbreaking. Past updates to iTunes fooled around with DFU mode and syncing to make life harder for jailbreakers. The iPhone Dev Team, master hackers, Tweeted that the update was safe to install.

As is typically the case, iTunes 9.0.3 is big, so be aware, it'll take some time to download. Also typical of an iTunes update: it'll take some time to install.
