Apple has released iPhone 3.1.3 OS to the "wild." This OS update is a minor release, as noted by the fact that the prior release was 3.1.2.
As such, the iPhone 3.1.3 OS fixes some bugs, including a number of security issues. It doesn't add any significant features. Some of the bugs that were fixed in iPhone 3.1.3 OS aside from the security issues are:
- improves accuracy of reported battery level on iPhone 3GS
- resolves issue where 3rd party apps would not launch in some instances
- fixes bug that may cause an app to crash when using the Japanese Kana keyboard
IF you have already jailbroken and / or unlocked your iPhone, it should be obvious, but bears repeating: you should not upgrade to the iPhone 3.1.3 OS. It will un-jailbreak your device, and could prevent you from unlocking the phone to a different carrier later.
Anyone considering an upgrade to the iPhone 3.1.3 OS needs to wait for new tools, such as a new blackra1n release or a new iPhone Dev Team release, before doing so.
It's possible, however, that hackers might skip the iPhone 3.1.3 OS release. A 3.2, or perhaps 4.0 release is expected to coincide with the date that the iPad ships, and it's believed jailbreakers may hold off until after that release.
