Warren Sapp Arrested, Charged With Domestic Violence

They say football is a brutal sport. Some say it carries over into the lives of players. Warren Sapp, former NFL star and "Dancing With the Stars" season 7 runner-up, was arrested Saturday. He is accused of attacking his girlfriend of two years at Miami Beach's Shore Club hotel.

Ironically, Warren Sapp was arrested on the eve of the Super Bowl. To be exact, he was in the area to attend the "big game" and cover it for the NFL Network. Super Bowl kickoff time is 6:25 PM EST, by the way.

Authorities were called after the girlfriend, who was not named in reports, reported the 5 AM incident around noon Saturday. She was later taken to Mount Sinai Medical Center and treated for a swollen knee and neck bruising.

Given the 37-year-old Warren Sapp's arrest, the NFL Network announced that he had been relieved of his "duties" as an analyst for the weekend. It's unclear if there will be any long-term consequences.

Warren Sapp has been retired since 2008. He played defensive tackle for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Oakland Raiders during his 13 year professional career. His 96.5 career sacks are the second-highest career total sacks for a defensive tackle.

Still more ironically, the DT with the highest number of career sacks, John Randle, was just named to the NFL Hall of Fame. In addition, before Warren Sapp was arrested, he was named to tne NFL's all-decade team for the 00's.
