It's Super Bowl Sunday, and several questions are on the minds of NFL fans today. They include:
What time does Super Bowl 2010 start? (6:25 PM EST)
What is Super Bowl kickoff time?
What is Super Bowl start time?
There's one more, of course: who will win?
While the answer to the question of the Super Bowl start time is approximately 6:25 PM EST (broadcast on CBS), the answer to the question of who will win is likely answered differently if you use your heart or your head.
Logically, if you look at the game, you'd assume the Indianapolis Colts would blast the New Orleans Saints. That's what the oddsmakers think, as well, as Super Bowl kickoff time approaches.
If you use your heart instead, you might think, or at least want, the New Orleans Saints to win. After all, who wouldn't want to see them bring back the Super Bowl trophy to the still recovering City?
While most think that once the Super Bowl start time hits we will see a duel of two star QBs, there's far more to the battle than Peyton Manning against Drew Brees. That's the marquee matchup, but a QB alone cannot win a game this large.
The Saints have an advantage in the running game, as evidenced by the low, low, rushing rank the Colts have in the NFL. If Reggie Bush continues to run OVER people, it could be a game changer.
The Saints were able to rattle Kurt Warner, another great QB, however, and they put great pressure on Brett Favre, also an all-time great. Can they rattle Peyton Manning?
That could be the key. Peyton Manning dearly wants to cement his season with a Super Bowl victory. He already won the AP's Player of the Year award. What better than to seal it, as well as his career "greatness," with a win. If he wins, in fact, he will join a short list of QBs that have won multiple Super Bowls.
Meanwhile, the Colts have their own great defensive line. Can they rattle Brees, even without star Dwight Feeney? Feeney's ankle will be tested pre-game; even without him, they have a formidable pass rush.
It could, however, be intangibles that win the game. When one looks at Peyton Manning, one sees a QB that has the mindset of a Joe Montana, Tom Brady, Steve Young, or Troy Aikman. That's a QB that knows he can do the job. Drew Brees is great as well, but hasn't been "AS" time-tested as Manning, and the late season fall-off by the Saint does not bode well for pressure situations.
As well, Manning runs most of the Colts' offense out of the no-huddle, and calls most of his own plays. In today's systems, that's a rarity.
Super Bowl start time is just hours away. As the kickoff comes, who will win? Logically, it will be the Colts, going away. The Saints may be able to stay with them for a while, but not for the entire game.
