Tebow Super Bowl Ad Sends "Gentle" Message

The announcement that Focus on the Family was going to air a Super Bowl ad caused a lot of controversy. Yesterday, CBS aired two versions of the ad, but they were both very light, gentle, and not really worthy of the big bruhaha they caused.

The ad that aired during the NFL's Super Bowl (video here) was more raucous. It had a slapstick ending that had Tebow trying to tackle his mother. "Timmy," she called him.

The Tim Tebow ad drew much criticism. However, it wasn't about the content of the ad, per se, as it hadn't even been aired yet. It was more about the fact that CBS chose to air it. In the past, networks have been very cautious about anything that might be considered political, or controversial.

However, the Pam (his mother was the focus of most of the ad) and Tim Tebow ad was very "gentle," in that it didn't even mention "pro-life" or "abortion" in the ad.

She mentioned, "I can remember so many times when I almost lost him," and the conclusion of the ad asked people to visit the Focus on the Family website to get the "full story."

The ad was so gentle that it's possible that people didn't even get the message. Those who were aware of the controversy probably did, but those who were not aware, were probably confused.

Tim Tebow won the Heisman Trophy in 2007. His mother, Pam, was told at them time by doctors that she might want to abort him, based on the number of medical issues she was facing. The family are devout Christians.
