Richard Finch, co-founder of KC and the Sunshine Band, arrested in Ohio

KC and the Sunshine Band

Richard Finch, best known for being the co-founder, producer and former bass player of KC and the Sunshine Band, has been arrested in Ohio. It should be noted that Finch is not "the KC" of the band. That person is Harry "KC" Wayne Casey.

Richard Finch was arrested after a 17-year-old boy alleged that he (Finch) made inappropriate contact with him at Finch's home in Newark, Ohio. Under questioning at the sheriff's office, Finch, 56, admitted not just to sex with that boy, but with others ranging in age from 13 to 17, police said. Finch is currently being held on on $250,000 bond.

Richard Finch is a seven-time Grammy Award winner. He is not a current member of KC and the Sunshine Band, according to WIkipedia. The band was founded in 1973 and continues to tour with KC still the lead singer.

There was no statement on the official KC and the Sunshine Band website, as of this writing. However, a message posted on the web site of Richard Finch Productions Inc. said the allegations against Finch were unfounded.

That contradicts, of course, the police statement, which noted that Richard Finch admitted to the inappropriate contact. The statement was very short. It said:

We appreciate your contact, but at this time, we have no comment.

We will let due process happen through the legal system and through that, we are sure Mr. Finch will be vindicated from these unfounded allegations.

Thank you.

Police said that no date has been set for Richard Finch's arraignment.

KC and the Sunshine band was a mega-band in the 1970s. Richard Finch started the band with Harry "KC" Casey in 1973. At the time, KC was a record company stockroom clerk. The band produced huge hits, including, "Get Down Tonight," "Keep It Comin' Love," "That's the Way (I Like It)" and "I'm Your Boogie Man." The current band last produced an album in 2007.
