Brock Lesnar Exits the Octagon Forever After UFC 141 Loss to Alistair Overeem [VIDEO]

Brock Lesnar, 34, has retired from MMA after losing his UFC 141 match against Alistair Overeem, but he might not be done from pro sports: a return for him to WWE is possible.

Lesnar and Overeem met in a five-round non-title heavyweight fight at UFC 141, on Dec. 30th in a rare Friday night event in Las Vegas, Nevada. It was a quick match: Overeem stopped Lesnar by TKO with a vicious kick to the body at 2:26 of the first round in their bout.

After the fight, Brock Lesnar was quite clear. He said, "This is the last time you'll see me in the octagon. I've had a really difficult couple of years with my disease, and I'm going to officially say tonight is the last time." His departure leaves the UFC without its biggest pay-per-view star, heading into the New Year.

Brock Lesnar proved hugely popular in UFC over the past four years, largely due to his fame from his wrestling career. Only 5-3 in UFC, Lesnar beat Randy Couture in 2008 to win the heavyweight title, then defended it twice before losing the belt to Cain Velasquez in 2010.

However, while he beat Couture and others, he couldn't seem to beat diverticulitis, a lower-intestinal ailment that involves the formation of pouches (diverticula) on the outside of the colon. Diverticulitis results if one of these diverticula becomes inflamed. He's been fighting diverticulitus for the past 2 1/2 years.

UFC President Dana White was taken by surprise by Brock Lesnar's retirement announcement. He said, "I had no idea he would do that; am I surprised? No. Brock Lesnar has made a lot of money in his career and has achieved a lot of things. He brought a lot of excitement to the heavyweight division. What he accomplished in a short amount of time is amazing, but I get it. It doesn't shock me."

Retirement from UFC and MMA doesn't mean that Lesnar is done forever, though. There have been rumors since 2010 that Lesnar was mulling over a return to WWE. He even told The Los Angeles Times recently that he wouldn't be averse from doing business with Vince McMahon, Chairman, CEO and Chairman of the Executive Committee of WWE, again.

The winner of this bout was scheduled be first in line to fight the winner of the Nov. 12 fight between Cain Velasquez and Junior Dos Santos, which means that Alistair Overeem's next fight will likely be against Dos Santos, who will be making his first title defense.
