We must sadly report that comedian Robert Schimmel is dead after suffering injuries in an auto accident. He was 60, and passed away on Friday.
Robert Schimmel passenger in car; daughter driving
Robert Schimmel was a passenger in the car that his 19-year old daughter Aliyah was driving at the time of the accident. As she swerved to avoid another accident, the car the two were in flipped multiple times. Reportedly, she is still in the hospital, but will recover. The accident occurred on Aug. 26th.
Robert Schimmel's death was confirmed on Facebook, by his brother Jeff. He updated his status to: "Robert Schimmel. Son, Brother, Father, Grandfather, Comedian, Generous Man. I have always loved you, admired you, and was proud to be your biggest fan. I will never forget a single moment. R.I.P."
A stand-up comedian, Schimmel cited Lenny Bruce as his all-time comedy hero. He was a frequent guest on "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" and on Howard Stern's radio show.
Robert Schimmel's website says nothing of his death. The site mentions, however, that he was to be playing at the Improv in Kansas City, MO from 9/2 - 9/5.
Schimmel married his first wife, Vicki, in 1977; the couple had four children together, including Aliyah. Their son Derek died of cancer at age 11. They eventually divorced, and Schimmel then married his second wife, Melissa, with whom he had two sons, although that marriage ended in divorce (with Melissa filing in mid-2009), as well.
