Courtney Love's daughter deposition: shocking details of drugs and dead animals

Courtney Love’s daughter (with famed Nirvana front man Kurt Cobain) Frances Bean Cobain filed a restraining order a little over two years ago; now the shocking details of the deposition have been made public, revealing a chaotic life of drugs, domestic disturbance and mental health problems.

In a sworn statement on December 9, 2009, Frances Bean Cobain makes shocking allegations against her mother. She rattles off a long list of prescription drugs her mother is on. "[Love] has taken drugs for as long as I can remember,” the then-17-year-old says. “She basically exists now on...Xanax, Adderall, Sonata and Abilify, sugar and cigarettes.”

Frances alleged that her mother is a threat to both herself and her household. "She rarely eats... She often falls asleep in her bed while she is smoking, and I am constantly worried that she will start a fire (which she has done at least three times) that will threaten our lives.”

Frances also described an incident in which her mother drags her to James Barber's house. Barber was a boyfriend at the time, and clearly, the pair were having some difficulties. "She took me in a taxi to his house in the middle of the night, and from outside the house, in her bare feet, she screamed at him, threw rocks at the house, and threatened to burn his house down," Frances said in the court documents. "His children were inside the house, but that did not stop my mother.”

Frances even said that her mother threatened to jump out of a balcony with Frances watching.

Frances Cobain’s most disturbing claims, however, are about the circumstances surrounding the deaths of two family pets. Frances says that Love’s problem with hoarding caused the family cat to get tangled up in pieces of trash, fabrics and boxes, while her problem with assorted pills caused the family dog to swallow a lethal dose as they lay about the house.

Frances Bean filed the deposition in a successful bid to obtain a permanent restraining order against her mother after the two had a physical fight. Love is prohibited from contacting her daughter either directly or indirectly.

Courtney Love, for her part, has recently published an e-book, in which she explores the many difficult aspects of her life. She strikes a defiant pose, even as she admits to using crack to improve her math skills. She and Sam Lutfi – of the Britney Spears infamy – are close. And she said “thank you” to Dr. Phil – after the TV shrink housed her in a swanky Sunset Boulevard home – by having coke delivered to her doorstep.

As for Frances Bean’s allegations, she only said that “It’s hard to understand what I did to make Frances treat me like this. We slept in the same bed till she was 14.”
