Escaped Madonna stalker recaptured, returned to mental institution

Prisoner

You may know that Madonna’s "famed" stalker, Robert Dewey Hoskins, 54, escaped from a California mental health facility earlier this week, but authorities now say that he was captured on Friday morning.

The Los Angeles Police Department released a statement on Friday saying that Robert Dewey Hoskins was arrested at 9 a.m. that morning not far from the L.A.-area mental hospital he walked away from last week. He is being transported back to the facility.

Back in 1996 Madonna’s private security team shot Hoskins as he scaled the wall of her Hollywood Hills compound. He was tried, convicted and sentenced to ten years for threatening to kill the star. Because of his mental state, he was not deemed fit for release into the general population and remained hospitalized at a California mental state facility.

Although Madonna is still doubtless on guard and nervous, Hoskins has apparently shifted his murderous focus to another celebrity, Academy Award-winning actress Halle Berry. Hoskins has threatened to slit Berry’s throat --- and that’s while he was medicated. Previously, he had threatened to kill Madonna if she did not wed him, using the same threat aas with Berry, saying, "I'm going to slice her throat from ear to ear."

When he escaped, Police minced no words in warning the public about Hoskins. They described him as “highly psychotic” and extremely violent. They released a statement Thursday warning the public to not engage him directly and to call authorities immediately if they identify him.

Berry was reportedly terrified, and had asked a judge’s permission to move permanently to France as a safety measure for her and her 3-year-old daughter, Nahla. Gabriel Aubry, Nahla’s father, was reportedly infuriated over the request, according to TMZ.com. Berry’s request came as the Oscar-winning actress’s custody battle with her ex-boyfriend continues at fever pitch; he may have suspected her request was calculated to strip him of custodial rights.

Those rights are in suspension right now after a nanny accused Aubry of pushing her while she was holding Nahla. While the authorities conduct their investigation, Aubry’s visitation must be supervised. Berry has previously asked a judge to strip Aubry of all his parental rights, but a judge quickly dismissed that possibility. Now Berry is trying another tactic. Clearly the duo have long forgotten what brought them together, and Aubry must not feel too kindly inclined to see his daughter becoming increasingly attached to Berry’s boyfriend of two years, Olivier Martinez.
