Giant office supply retailer Office Depot has the 2013 edition of the Nexus 7 priced at $20 below 2012 levels, despite upgraded hardware, and even includes a free gift.

The deal, found here, offers a $50 cut in the 16GB WiFi-only Nexus 7 (2013) price, lowering it to $179.99. Office Depot charges sales tax in most states. Free Next Business Day Delivery is offered by the company for this product.

This surpasses a deal seen yesterday by Best Buy, which offered the same device at just slightly below 2012 levels, $5, in fact. In terms of the gift, customers will be offered a choice of the following three items. They have to select the one they want and add it to their shopping cart:

Choice of one free gift (select the item and add to cart)

  • 16GB USB 2.0 Lexar Flash Drive
  • 8-Pack of Energizer Max AA Batteries
  • Targus Stylus

None of those are deal breakers, but it is interesting that Office Depot is sweetening the deal with additional freebies.

This year's model of Google's 7-inch tablet has been updated with a rear-facing camera, a FHD display, and a better processor. Here is how it is described by Office Depot:

  • Sharp 7" tablet screen. High-resolution tablet puts more than 2.3 milliion pixels in the palm of your hand. Read text that's sharper than the printed page, see images more vividly and watch videos come to life in vibrant 1080p HD.

  • Micro-USB port lets you connect to USB devices.
  • Enjoy up to 9 hours of active battery life between charges. Battery life will vary depending on the product configuration, product model, applications loaded on the product, power management setting of the product, and the product features used by the customer. As with all batteries, the maximum capacity of this battery will decrease with time and usage.
  • Webcam and microphone let you keep in touch with others via video and voice messaging. Offers a resolution of 1.2 megapixels.
  • Stereo speakers with sound powered by Fraunhofer, for music and multimedia.
  • Android, Google, Google Play, Nexus and other marks are trademarks of Google Inc.
  • Share your tablet with friends and family — each person has a separate customizable space, inlcuding homescreen, wallpaper, apps, storage and more.

It is unclear how long this deal will remain in place.
