NBC's new fairy tale based series, "Grimm" will launch next Friday, but you don't have to wait until then to watch about half of the episode, if you're willing to watch online, at any rate.
You can watch the first 23 minutes of the premiere "Grimm" episode below. Indeed, for an hour-long show, 46-minutes is the going rate for what's "left over" after ads are subtracted. Any who might think the number of minutes on actual show time is decreasing would be correct. That would, in fact, also be the reason that many shows do not have an official theme song / segment: removing that gives the network more time for ads (let's face it, they are not going to replace that with show time).
Along with "Once Upon a Time," "Grimm" is based on fairy tales. Grimms' Fairy Tales are a collection of German origin fairy tales first published in 1812 by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm, the Brothers Grimm. The collection is commonly known today as Grimms' Fairy Tales.
According to Wikipedia, "On December 20, 1812, they published the first volume of the first edition, containing 86 stories; the second volume of 70 stories followed in 1814. For the second edition, two volumes were issued in 1819 and a third in 1822, totalling 170 tales. The third edition appeared in 1837; fourth edition, 1840; fifth edition, 1843; sixth edition, 1850; seventh edition, 1857. Stories were added, and also subtracted, from one edition to the next, until the seventh held 211 tales. All editions were extensively illustrated, first by Philipp Grot Johann and, after his death in 1892, by Robert Leinweber."
The new NBC series "Grimm" premieres Friday, Oct. 28, appropriately just a few days before Halloween. As Wikipedia describes, "Set in present-day Portland, Oregon, the series puts a new twist on the stories of the Brothers Grimm in which a homicide detective learns that he is a descendent of a group of hunters known as 'Grimms,' who fight to keep humanity safe from the supernatural creatures of the world. Upon learning of his destiny and that he is the last of his kind, he has to protect every living soul from the sinister storybook characters that have infiltrated the real world."
The cast includes:
- David Giuntoli as Nick Burkhardt, who discovers he descends from a line of Grimms; hunters who fight supernatural forces. He also works as a homicide detective.
- Russell Hornsby as Hank Griffin, Nick's homicide partner.
- Bitsie Tulloch as Juliette Silverton, Nick's girlfriend.
- Silas Weir Mitchell as Eddie Monroe, a former 'big bad wolf' who aids Nick with his cases.
- Sasha Roiz as Captain Renard
- Reggie Lee as Sgt. Wu
You can watch the first half of the Pilot Episode of "Grimm" below. The synopsis of the episode is:
"After a college student is mysteriously attacked, Detective Nick Burkhardt (David Giuntoli) discovers that he is a descendent of the "Grimms," people who keep the balance between humanity and mythical creatures. While Nick and reformed Grimm creature Monroe (Silas Weir Mitchell), try to keep the humans and creatures in order, Nick tries to keep his newfound calling a secret from his fiancée Juliette (Bitsie Tulloch) and his partner Hank (Russell Hornsby).
