If you didn't watch the earlier trailer for Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter, you missed Honest Abe swing a mean axe, but as President's Day approaches tomorrow, viewers get the same view of Honest Abe, but with a voiceover from his mentor that would spur any axe-wielding vampire hunter to great heights of undead slaying.
Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter is due out right during the summer blockbuster season, specifically on June 22, 2012. It promises to give you a view of he who many call the greatest U.S president of all that borders more on True Blood than the Emancipation Proclamation or the Gettysburg Address.
The film is based on Seth Grahame-Smith’s 2010 novel of the same name (Grahame-Smith also wrote the adapted screenplay). Benjamin Walker stars as Lincoln, and Dominic Cooper plays Henry Sturges, his mentor (more on Sturges later).
Although we know things don't end well for Lincoln, in terms of a fateful meeting with John Wilkes Booth, there is plenty of room for a sequel. That's because Sturges, his mentor, isn't human. Instead, Sturges is one of the "good vampires," who saves --- and befriends --- Lincoln after Abe fights a vampire who nearly kills him.
The book is written as a biography of Abraham Lincoln, which is based on "secret diaries" kept by the 16th President of the United States. In the novel, these given are to Grahame-Smith by the aforementioned vampire, Henry Sturges.
In the novel, the eventual president of the United States is first told about the actual existence of vampires at the age of 11, when his father Thomas explains things to him. His father explains that a vampire killed Abraham's grandfather (also named Abraham) in 1786. Also, Abe's mother, Nancy Hanks Lincoln, did not die as a result of "milk sickness," but instead to being given a "fool's dose" of vampire blood, which was the result of Thomas's failure to repay a debt owed.
One year later, Abraham lures the vampire responsible for his mother's death to the family farm. He kills it with a homemade stake.
He later meets Henry at the age of 16, while investigating reports of a possible vampire attack along the Ohio River. Lincoln is nearly killed by a vampire who overmatches him, but Sturges saves him at the last moment, and nurses him back to health. With Sturges' help, Lincoln is trained, becoming an expert axe-handler (watch the video) and a skilled wrestler.
Watch the video below. The video is the same as the earlier trailer release, but in this case, the voiceover work by Sturges gives more flavor to the international Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter trailer.
