New trailer for The Bourne Legacy: will you go without Damon? [VIDEO]

The Bourne Legacy

There is no Jason Bourne / David Webb, at least not in any further Bourne movies, but the series lives on, and a trailer for the fourth film in the series, The Bourne Legacy has just been released.

Matt Damon opted out of any participation in this Bourne movie, following the movie The Bourne Ultimatum. Jeremy Renner plays the new protagonist in The Bourne Legacy, Aaron Cross, although he refers to himself as Kenneth Kitson in the new trailer. Perhaps a situation much like Bourne / Webb?

He's from Reno, Nevada apparently, and he's not in good shape as the trailer opens. Kitson --- or Cross --- has his eyes bruised and his face spattered with blood.

He's then asked .. "Will you give yourself to this program," to which he answers, "Yes, sir."

Edward Norton's character, Byer, is seen telling Kitson, "There is nothing you wouldn't do for this country. You have the strength to do what's necessary." Welcomed to the program, there's then a caption that obviously refers to the past Matt Damon protagonist, that reads, "There was never just one."

Norton, again speaking, says, :"Jason Bourne was just the tip of the iceberg."

We then find out about "the program." It's called Outcome, and it's Treadstone without the inconsistency, we are told. Apparently it works quite well. They have "never seen evaluations like this."

Tony Gilroy is the director. He was the screenwriter of the first three films. According to Wikipedia, Matt Damon, although not returning for this film, has not ruled out starring in any future films in the series, as long as Paul Greengrass, who directed the last two films, returns. It's clear that Damon is no fan of Gilroy.

In the December issue of GQ, Damon blasted Tony Gilroy for his Bourne Ultimatum script. Damon stated that Gilroy was only required to write one draft of the script (with no rewrites) while receiving "an exorbitant amount of money." “This is a career-ender. I mean, I could put this thing up on eBay and it would be game over for that dude. It's terrible. It's really embarrassing. He was having a go, basically, and he took his money and left."

Still, Damon said he is "really pulling for this one, even though I don't have anything to do with it. Selfishly, it's bad for me if that movie doesn't do well." At least damon's comment is truthful, if not altrustic.

The film has a release date of August 3, 2012, according to both IMDB and Wikipedia.
