A couple of high profile Nokia devices are set to intro or even launch soon, according to two different reports. It makes perfect sense, consider that Nokia World is being held next week, Sept. 14-17 in London.
Nokia bets much on Symbian 3 OS
First, Reuters said that the Nokia will unveil its new flagship model E7, which comes with a large touchscreen and full keyboard, at the show in London. Reportedly, two anonymous sources with "direct knowledge of Nokia's plans" confirmed the event to Reuters. Many believe the E7 is the slider-keyboard version of the N8.
Speaking of the Nokia N8, which was unveiled in April, we apparently now have a hard date for the release of that device. That smartphone will reportedly begin shipping on the 30th of September, according to Tapani Kaskinen who is Nokia's Senior Comms Manager. He made the statement when speaking to Finnish newspaper Kauppalehti, saying that advance orders of the N8 will "begin shipping 30 September."
On the other hand, the Nokia blog Nok Nok, has previously said those in the UK will be able to snagthe device begininng September 27th from Nokia Online.
These new smartphones will be the first sporting Nokia's nwe Symbian 3 OS. Symbian 3 is hoped to bring Nokia phones back in-line with the capabilities of Android and iOS devices. While the Finland-based company continues to hold sway over the highest market share globally, it's been on a steady decline of late. The company hopes the N8 and other Symbian 3 devices will halt Nokia's slide.
One thing we can say with certainty: the Nokia N8 has a heck of a camera, spec-wise. It's 12-megapixels, though much as Apple asserted when comparing the iPhone 4's 5-megapixel camera against others with higher resolution cameras, it's not just about specs when it comes to photos.
