To be clear, this is the wi-fi only model. In 16GB form -- and new -- that model sells for $399 at the Apple Store. These refurbished models are only available in black. According to Cowboom, these are rated six out of 10. That means, the site says, that these iPad 2s could have "Some fine scratches or minor scuffs." Strangely, some page refreshes have brought up text that says that these are rated seven out of 10 (Overall good condition). It's unclear why this is happening.
The deal can be found here. Notably, there is an additional $3.00 CEW (California Electronic Waste recycling) fee for items shipped to California. Naturally, as a Best Buy brand, there is sales tax in most states. Cowboom calculates that tax either based on the shipping address or on the pickup address.
The iPad 2 is Apple's last non-Retina Display full-sized (9.7-inch) tablet. The iPad 3 and iPad 4 both have Retina displays, but the iPad 2 only has a 1,024 by 768 pixel display versus the later models' 2,048 by 1,536 resolution.
The iPad 2 sports an Apple A5 processor. The later models sport an A5X and A6X, respectively, with the X denoting the processor was changed from the non-X versions to provide greater graphics processing power to handle the large Retina display of the iPad.
The iPad 2 comes with 512MB of RAM, vs. the iPad 3 and iPad 4 that both sport 1GB of RAM. It has a dual-core PowerVR SGX543MP2 GPU (later models have quad-core GPUs) and was the first iPad to come with cameras. The initial iPad had neither a front- nor rear-facing camera.
Although these devices will not carry a standard Apple warranty, Cowboom does offer one and two-year warranties at low prices. A one year product protection plan is $28.99, while a two year plan is $49.99.
Included in the box is the Apple MC769LL/A iPad 2 (16GB), wi-fi only, black. It comes with the necessary USB cable -- note that the iPad 2 uses Apple's proprietary 30-pin connector, not the new Lightning connector on the iPhone 5, 5S, 5C and iPad 4. You'll also get an AC power adapter, but what you won't get is an owner's manual.
Apple is expected to ship an upgraded iPad sometime before the holiday shopping season, along with a new iPad mini.
