A new domain name extension (.xxx) will launch in December, and while some are covering themselves, making sure that they won't see their trademarks cybersquatted and ruined, one group that hasn't been shy about nudity is looking to launch its own .xxx porn site: PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals).

The .xxx domains are being eyed with caution by those who might not want to see sites like, say, ibm.xxx, apple.xxx, etc. etc. PETA, however, which has used scantily clad women at protests (their so-called "lettuce ladies"), famously had a Super Bowl ad with a woman having what seemed to be an erotic moment with vegetables to promote eschewing meat for vegetarianism, and has celebrities pose for such campaigns as "I'd Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur," in which celebrities such as Nia Long, Brooke Hogan, and others disrobe for a cause. is embracing the idea.

PETA spokeswoman Lindsay Rajt said, "We live in a 24 hour news cycle world and we learn the racy things we do are sometimes the most effective way that we can reach particular individuals.

"We really want to grab people's attention, get them talking and to question the status quo and ultimately take action, because the best way we can help the greatest number of animals is simply by not eating them."

It's unclear if the site will be soft- or hardcore porn, but we assume it will not include beastiality. The organization has said the site will draw attention to the plight of animals. Seriously, however, According to Rajt, it will have enough adult content to qualify for the .xxx domain name, but will also other graphic images of animals to enlighten visitors at the cruel treatment of animals used for our food.

Increasingly, organizations, and not just PETA, have been fostering vegetarianism for both sustainability and health, as well. PETA's current website describes some of the treatment of food animals as follows:

"Chickens have their sensitive beaks seared off with a hot blade, and male cattle and pigs are castrated without any painkillers. Farmed chickens, turkeys, and pigs spend their brief lives in dark and crowded warehouses, many of them so cramped that they can't even turn around or spread a single wing. They are mired in their own waste, and the stench of ammonia fills the air."

PETA confirmed that in addition to celebrities, and perhaps porn stars like Jenna Jameson and Ron Jeremy, who have appeared in PETA campaigns in the past, regular people will also be featured in the project.
