About two weeks ago, country singer Randy Travis was arrested on suspicion of public intoxication, outside the First Baptist Church in Sanger, Texas, and now dashboard camera video of the incident has been released.
In the incident, police allegedly discovered Randy Travis sitting alone in his car, along with an open bottle of wine. The video is of fairly good quality. Police officers can be heard asking the singer for identification, and later radioing for additional officers, while saying, "Subject is stating he is 'the' Randy Travis and that he has a driver's license out of New Mexico."
Travis can be heard to be audibly slurring his words. The singer has difficulty opening his car door, but then when the police officer tell him that he is going to take Travis to jail for public intoxication, Travis responds, "Really? Are you kidding me?"
[The assumption is that Travis believes he is above the law, much like other celebrities such as Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan. Those celebrities have been jailed before, but even with multiple months of incarceration time as their sentence were released mere hours or minutes later because of 'jail overcrowding' in California.]
Travis reacts poorly --- to put it mildly --- to being handcuffed. He says to the officers, "You fixing to put handcuffs on me, are you? Is that what you're fixing to do?" In one part of the video, an officer can be heard stating that Randy Travis told him that he had been arguing with his future wife.
In the original incident, which occurred on Feb. 5, and according to the Sanger Police Department, someone had called the police and reported a suspicious vehicle near the aforementioned cFirst Baptist Church. When officers arrived on-scene, they discovered the 52-year-old singer. Travis was arrested and taken to a nearby jail around at 1:30 a.m. There he was booked, cited and later released, just a short while later.
Travis later took full responsibility for his actions. "I apologize for what resulted following an evening of celebrating the Super Bowl," he said. "I'm committed to being accountable, and apologize for my actions."
