Lana Del Rey, who saw her earlier Saturday Night Live performance hammered on Twitter, has just seen it hammered again, this time on --- Saturday Night Live.
That's right, Saturday Night Live, which took a chance on Lana Del Rey by booking the singer before her first major label release, took Lana Del Rey to task on the first new episode after her appearance. Some called the Lana Del Rey SNL performance a "fiasco," and showing how much people were really affected, good or bad, by it, the "Lana Del Rey" SNL performance search term is trending yet again on Google search.
SNL regular Kristen Wiig played Lana Del Rey, appearing on the "Weekend Update" segment. There, Wiig (as Lana Del Rey) spoke candidly about the Lana Del Rey SNL performance from just weeks prior. Seth Meyers introduced Del Rey when she "sang," and he said "What is that noise?" Right, not exactly complimentary.
Seth asked Lana Del Rey about her SNL performance of a few weeks ago. To that, she replied that while she thought she had sung two songs over her new album, 'Based on the public’s response, I must have clubbed a baby seal while singing the Taliban national anthem.'
He noted that "there was a surprisingly big backlash." Some said, he added, that "she didn't seem seasoned enough to be on the show."
"Indeed," Del Rey said, "Some said I was 'the worst musical guest in SNL history. The music stage on 'Saturday Night Live' is hallowed ground, and I failed to reach the high bar set by past guests such as Bubba Sparxxx, the Baja Men, and Shaggy."
When asked why she made people so angry, Del Rey said, "I think people thought I was stiff, distant, and weird. But there’s a perfectly good explanation for that. I’m stiff, distant, and weird."
During Lana Del Rey's actual SNL performance, on-line comments, particularly on Twitter, raged about the 25-year-old American's singing. For example: "Wow watching this "singer" on SNL is like watching a 12 year old in their bedroom when they're pretending to sing and perform. #signofourtimes," Tweeted actress/singer Juliette Lewis (although the Tweet was quickly deleted).
There was also the Tweet by celebrity blogger Perez Hilton, who Tweeted: "Just watched SNL. Not only was @LanaDelRey vocally WAY off, but watching her utter lack of stage presence was cringe-worthy."
Despite that, her new album, a major label release at last, "Born to Die," has done quite well since it debuted on January 27. The album sold 117,000 copies in the United States and opened at number-one on the U.K. Albums Chart.

#1 Don't get out much, do you?
Wow, way to miss half the message from the Wiig/Meyers skit. I didn't think the moments of Lana defense were that subtle, but maybe it's because I was actually paying attention and, oh yes, I get that SNL takes stabs at both sides, even when defending something/someone, and they do it using sarcasm and mocking humor to highlight the ridiculousness of life.
