'The Hunger Games' enters the final stretch: advance tix sales begin tomorrow

The Hunger Games Poster

"The Hunger Games" is set to hit theaters on March 23, but you probably don't want to wait until then if you want to be sure of getting tickets to one of the most-hyped films of the year, thus far, and if you want advance tickets, those are set to go on sale tomorrow, Wednesday, February 22.

For those not aware, "The Hunger Games," is a young-adult sci-fi novel. It is the first book of "The Hunger Games" trilogy, and was originally published on Sept. 14, 2008, by Scholastic. Catching Fire, the second book in the series, was published on Sept. 1, 2009, and Mockingjay, the final book, was published on Aug 24, 2010.

In the world of "The Hunger Games," those games are an annual televised event involving one boy and one girl aged 12 to 18 from each of the 12 districts, with the event being a huge televised battle in which only one person, out of the twenty-four can survive.

The first novel, and thus, the first movie, introduces us to sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, played by Jennifer Lawrence in the movie. Josh Hutcherson plays Peeta Mellark, Katniss' eventual love interest.

While theaters are sending out emails advertising advance ticket sales for "The Hunger Games," they are not stopping there. Cinemark, for example, is reminding email subscribers that it's possible for Advance Screenings to be book as events, as well. Those would be scheduled for the day prior to the national release, March 22.

In addition to more than one trailer, singer Taylor Swift has released her "Safe and Sound" video, which is her contribution to "The Hunger Games" soundtrack. It debuted online just about a week ago. The three minute and 23 second song was dubbed a "death lullaby," by Swift, based on the dystopian world and society that "The Hunger Games" is based on. You can see that music video, here.

Swift explained how she came to the video. “When I got the call, I thought from what I’d heard about the movie, ‘It’s an action movie, right? We're probably going to be writing a song that’s like, 'We’re going to win.' And then I read the book, and I thought, ‘No, we’re going to have to write sort of a death lullaby, it’s so different from what I thought.’”
