Verizon Wireless has launched a promotion for several of its smartphones gives users a discount with one of two coupon codes.

The following devices are "affected" by the promotion. All of these devices are $50 less than normal pricing. They all require a two-year activation to qualify for the promotion (which requires coupon code VERIZONDEAL).

Pebble Blue Samsung Galaxy S III (16GB) at $9.99 . This is last year's flagship Samsung phone and is still a well-built and good performing device. It uses a 4.8-inch display screen, a dual-core Qualcomm processor, and supports LTE.

The Hydro Elite by Kyocera is $49.99 with this promotion. You might imagine, based on its name, that it might have something to do with water. You would be right. The Kyocera Hydro Elite -- for up to 30 minutes -- is waterproof when submerged in up to one meter) of water.

HTC's Windows Phone 8 device, the 8X, is available for free with this promotion. It ships with Android 4.1, has a Snapdragon S4 processor and 1.5GB of RAM. The display is "only" 4.3-inches in size, diagonally.

The Samsung ATIV Odyssey Windows Phone 8 device sells for $0.99 with this coupon code. It comes with a 4-inch screen, 8GB of internal storage and 1GB RAM.

HTC's flagship phone for 2014, the HTC One, can be purchased for $139.99 with a slightly different code, VERIZON30. The HTC One is on part with Samsung's 2014 flagship, the Galaxy S4, and has a 4.7-inch screen, 32GB of internal storage, and 2GB of RAM. It does not, however, have a microSD card slot.

The LG G2 Quad-Core 1080p smartphone -- normally $199.99 -- can be bought for $139.99 with the coupon code VERIZON30. Although not as well known as Samsung or HTC, LG has been making inroads of late. The LG is its latest superphone. It features a 5.2-inch screen, 3000mAh battery, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 MSM8974 processor running at 2.26GHz, and 2GB of RAM.

The G2 comes with 32GB of internal storage, but notably, only 24GB is user-available.

Verizon's version of the Motorola Moto X 4.7" Smartphone -- normally $199.99 -- can be purchased for $139.99 with the coupon code VERIZON30. The Moto X is the first device built completely after Google's acquisition of Motorola Mobility. While extremely marketed, the device is really a mid-range phone with a high-end price.
