Animal Adventures At Victorian Theatre

Posted August 31st, 2007 by ruzik_tuzik

The 2007-2008 Victoria Theatre Association season kicks off when naturalist and activist Jungle Jack Hanna transforms the Victoria Theatre stage into a makeshift zoo! Hanna and his animal pals visit Dayton for a family-friendly show to spread laughter and animal awareness, September 6.

Joining Hanna on stage will be a host of animals ranging from the adorable to the ferocious. The lineup, which is subject to change, includes a snake, armadillo, palm civet, snow leopard baby, clouded leopard baby, full-grown cheetah, flamingo, penguin, binturong, dingo and serval. Along with the menagerie will also be hilarious and fascinating stories from Jack’s experiences in the wild and footage from his adventures around the world.

America knows Hanna as the exuberant Jungle Jack, host of “Jack Hanna’s Animal Adventures,” a syndicated television series featuring Hanna’s international adventures on his mission to learn about wildlife, conserve habitats and spread love for nature. On-air since 1993, “Animal Adventures” is the longest-running and most-watched syndicated wildlife show in the world, airing in 90 percent of the United States and in 40 foreign countries.

Hanna is also a regular guest on the “Late Show with David Letterman,” “Larry King Live,” and “Good Morning America.”

Since working as a cage cleaner for the family vet at age 11, Hanna’s love for wildlife has propelled his career in protecting animals and spreading animal awareness. He stayed involved with wildlife throughout his school years, and afterwards he and his wife ran a pet shop and petting zoo in Tennessee. He then worked for several years at Central Florida Zoo.

From 1978 until 1992, Hanna was Executive Director of the Columbus Zoo, where he eliminated cage-like habitats, made contacts with community leaders, and generated funding to revamp the zoo and aquarium, transforming it into the state-of-the-art facility it is today.

Hanna continues to act as Executive Director Emeritus of the Columbus Zoo, and though he travels each of the seven continents for most of the year, he still calls Central Ohio his home. Hanna is excited about his newest venture into television and wilderness, “Into the Wild,” a new program following Hanna and his family on their adventures in wildlife scouting. Distinguishing the new series from “Animal Adventures,” “Into the Wild” features more of the reality of Hanna’s outings - including what he packs for his trips and where he stays when on site. Hanna has also authored several books about his various adventures, pets, bugs and the life of zoo keepers. -- www.victoriatheatre.com
