Russia's Lebedeva takes triple jump silver in Osaka

Russia's Tatyana Lebedeva won a silver medal in the women's triple jump Friday at the 2007 IAAF World Athletics Championships in Osaka, Japan.

Lebedeva, 31, who led the Russian squad to sweep all medals in the women's long jump on Tuesday, took second in the triple jump with a result of 15.07 meters (49.44 feet), behind Yargelis Savigne of Cuba, who jumped 15.28 meters (50.13 feet).

The bronze went to Hrysopiyi Devetzi of Greece, with a result of 15.04 meters (49.34 feet).

Lebedeva, the new World Champion in long jump, said earlier the triple jump was a more important event for her.

The athlete from Volgograd previously won gold in the World Championship triple jump, in 2001 and 2003. - RIA Novosti
