Grand Theatre To Hold Annual Fair Day

The Friends of The Grand Theatre hold an annual Fair and Theatre Open Day to raise vital funds for the Grand and invite visitors to view Blackpool's beautiful Victorian Grade II listed theatre.

The annual Friends of the Grand Fair and Theatre Open Day will this year be held on Sunday 9th September from 11am to 4pm – Admission Free.

Following Phase Two of the Glorious Grand Restoration - in which the entire auditorium was reseated and re-carpeted in resplendent Utrecht Blue - The Friends of The Grand has changed its annual fair from Christmas time to a Summer Fair as they wouldn't want to risk damaging the shapely wooden frames on the new seats by placing stalls on top of them.

The huge variety of craft stalls, theatre memorabilia, Tombola and raffle will now reside under the canopy in Matcham Court (to the rear of the Grand Theatre) as well as on the theatre stage as in previous years.

Home made cakes and coffee will also be on sale and Matchams Bar will be open throughout the day.

Theatre tours will be conducted for people wishing to have a look around the newly refurbished theatre. They can also enjoy an enthralling look at every aspect of a complex theatre at work. Stand on the raked stage and observe the cantilevered tiers of circles, boxes and pit - and the complete visibility of every fabulous new seat.

Test the acoustic perfections and learn about the sound positions. See the stage from the wings, the machinery for changing scenes and the latest lighting equipment in one of Britain's first all electric theatres. Inspect the under-stage and the 'traps' where actors could be raised or shot up through the stage. Fascinating! -- www.blackpoolgrand.co.uk
