Trolltech Helps to Promote Linux Mobile Industry in Asia

Trolltech®, the company that makes software faster to build and easier to use, is solidifying its role as a mobile Linux pioneer by co-hosting the “Linux Mobile Communications Conference: From Asia to Globalization. This exclusive conference, organized by the China Academy of Telecommunications Research (CATR) and the Ministry of Information Industry (MII), opens today in Beijing with the full support of Trolltech.

Sharing the successful experience of Trolltech and integrating the leading technology of mobile Linux, this industry conference is held to jointly promote the development of mobile Linux around the world.

The conference is attracting global industry players such as Wind River, MontaVista software, Sun Microsystems, Arphic, Flander, Freescale, Fujitsu BSC, Jataayu, Staikos Computing Services, Sophia Systems, STMicroelectronics, TapRoot Systems, UDTech, VirtualLogix and WSI as main sponsors. Those companies are participating in the conference and showcasing the latest achievements of Linux-based mobile technology.

The ground-breaking one-day conference is bringing together over 200 key stakeholders from China and abroad from the mobile communication markets--including officials, academics, company executives, and industry analysts. They will discuss the development direction of Linux mobile communications and the importance of mobile Linux platforms for the global mobile communications market.

Mr. Zhang Xinsheng, Deputy Director of Science &Technology Department, China Ministry of Information Industry (MII), said, “In recent years, China’s mobile telecommunications industry has seen rapid development. Due to its open-source characteristics and exemplary technological achievements, Linux continues to develop rapidly and present new opportunities. Mobile Linux will spur the development of China’s mobile communications industry, the speedup of industry innovation, and the improvement of domestic research, development, and intelligent-manufacturing.”

Mr. Benoit Schillings, Trolltech’s CTO, said, “Two years ago, we supported CATR by launching this conference series introducing the leading mobile Linux technology to China; today, we are planning to show the world the significant advances in mobile Linux technology applications and their acceptance in China and Asia, and we will move forward in cooperating with Chinese manufacturers.”

Trolltech develops leading technologies for Linux on the desktop and mobile devices. The company's Qtopia® technology is the most widely-used development environment and user interface for Linux-based products. Today, more than 90 vendors are designing, building, or shipping devices built with Qtopia and related Trolltech software for embedded Linux.

In August 2006, Trolltech launched the Qtopia® Greenphone™, the first open Linux mobile device for application developers, helping them create and bring to market mobile applications quicker and easier. In November of the same year, the Qtopia ® Greensuite was announced to reduce a manufacturer's time to market and actively address the technology fragmentation issues in the Linux mobile phone market. In April of this year, Trolltech acquired the FONAV Unified Communications Platform. Trolltech has thus continuously advanced its leadership role in providing development platforms for Linux mobile devices.

At present, Trolltech has successfully entered strategic partnership and technical cooperation agreements with more than 20 major Chinese mobile communications manufacturers, including ZTE, Datang Communication, Lenovo, Yuhua TelTech, Techfaith, and Longcheer. In May of 2007, Trolltech established a wholly-owned subsidiary in China in order to vigorously develop its professional services in the Asia Pacific region, and particularly in China. By providing engineering services, localization solutions, and timely customer response, the subsidiary’s goal is to become the local leader in Linux-related technologies as well as Trolltech’s primary customer service center.-Trolltech
